Recently I joined a beer club called “Have a nice beer“. The main idea of the club is every month send beers from different parts of the world to its members (it’s a little pricey, but if I have to buy by myself would be even more expensive). This month the selected country was Scotland, land of William Wallace, Neil Craven, kilts, and Brewdog – a badass local brewery (just by visiting their website you can see they are not your average brewery).

One of the two beers I received is the Punk IPA, a 5.6% ABV IPA. With an orange-mango color, a very hoppy aroma (from a blend of American – Chinook, Simcoe, Ahtanum – and New Zealander – Nelson Sauvin – hops), very refreshing, and with a sweet taste. I loved it, especially the aroma (fantastic bouquet) and how refreshing it was. Maybe sweeter than I prefer, but not too much.

I still have another bottle, but since it only expires in the beginning of next year I’ll (try to) save it for a warmer day to see if it will be as refreshing as think it is (not sure if I’ll resist waiting).

You can buy their beer and other merchandise direct from the website: this beer in a 33cl bottle cost just £1.59, but the problem is that outside UK they charge £40 for delivery (inside UK is just £7), so unless you buy in large scale it’s not worthy. Probably will ask Neil to smuggle some bottles when he visits home.

I’ll talk in another post about the other Brewdog beer I received. Great expectations. 🙂

Cheers!

G.

The idea of this blog is talk about two of my great passions: Beer & Testing (and vice-versa).

Testing: I am a QA professional with over 10 years of experience. Working for large IT companies, and recently joining a major Agile Consulting firm. Worked for a long time with proprietary automation tools. Decided to give a try to some open-source tools and accepted the challenge to master them. Expect some posts on Selenium, WebDriver, QTP, TestDirector, Cucumber, LoadRunner, JMeter, JBehave, and many more. If this is not enough, I plan to talk not just about tools but also about practices, especially the ones supporting Agile Testing.

Beer: Initially exposed to cheap lager Brazilian beers during my teen years, discovered different types first looking in the imported section of the supermarket and then in the brewing scene from South of Brazil. Because of business trips (and also vacation trips), I took the opportunity to visit local breweries and experiment different beers in the places I visited. Guinness Brewery in St James Gate? Been there. Heineken Experience in A’dam? Checked! Oktoberfest (in München)? Ja, klar! Early this year, I took a brewing course and now I’m taking the courage to make my own beer. In the future, I plan to take a beer sommelier course to learn not just to better distinguish the many aromas, tastes, and retro tastes, but also how to do a great beer and food pairing.

Hope you appreciate my posts and your feedback in comments section will be very valuable.

Cheers!
